Obolon Corporation comes 28th globally in terms of beer production in 2010.
Obolon is the only CIS-headquartered company that has made it into Top-40 beer-making concerns of the world. The company’s share in global production of beer is 0.5%.
This rating is traditionally based on analysis of the sales of the world’s largest breweries and is published by the respected German publication, Focus.
Surprisingly, most companies in the rating come from Asia, represented by 19 brewers, and not Europe (14 out of 40). They are followed by South America (4), North America (2) and Australia (1). The rating officials also note that there were virtually no mergers and acquisitions in 2010 that is such a feature of the beer market.
We should point out that Obolon Corporation’s position in the producers' rating is based not only on domestic sales (11th place worldwide), but also on extensive beer exports. The Corporation’s solid international position is confirmed by invariable leadership in beer exports from Ukraine. Today Obolon accounts for 80% of beer exports from Ukraine and is represented in 33 countries of the world on all continents.
Apart from being the 28th beer-making corporation of the world, Obolon has also become the 34th in terms of production of malt, one of beer’s major ingredients, together with water and hops (based on data from analytical company FirstKey).
This result is further evidence that we have chosen the right development strategy, notes Obolon JSC President Oleksandr Slobodian, because the first foundations for Obolon’s success were laid as early as 20 years ago when the enterprise was privatized in the context of the transition to a market economy. Obolon remains a 100% Ukrainian-owned company, headquartered in Kyiv."
