Question & answer
How much beer can you drink without harming your health?
Obolon considers a safe daily dose of beer to be 0.3-0.5 l and 0.5-0.7 for females and males respectively. Moreover, we warn persons under 18, pregnant women, and drivers against drinking alcoholic beverages. This information is written on the labels of all brand of beer produced by the corporation. In our recommendations, we use the term “unit”, with which the amount of alcohol can be measured. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), 1 U (unit) = 12.8g of pure alcohol. It is calculated that one 0.33l bottle of light and dark beer contains 1U and 1.5U, respectively.
Moderate drinking limits are also estimated to be:
- for men: less than 14U weekly;
- for women: less than 9U weekly;
- not more than 5 U of alcohol per day for both men and women;
- there should be at least three days per week free of alcohol use.
In this connection, we encourage beer drinkers to count how much they drink in order to determine the safe level and change their alcohol consumption habits.
